Recent California Legislation created a need for probation departments to begin supervising individuals being released from prison per AB109. Initially, it was believed there would be very few registered sex offenders in this population. As the new program began to unfold, it became apparent hundreds, if not thousands of registered sex offenders are now being released to be supervised by probation departments and their PRCS Units. Officers supervising sex offenders in these newly developed units find themselves ill-equipped and untrained to effectively supervise this difficult population and protect our communities.
